The Odyssey ProjectThe Odyssey Project

The Odyssey Project, led by English Professor Emily Auerbach of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a humanities course that is offered through the Division of Continuing Studies to adults who face financial barriers to higher education.

The 7th class of the Odyssey Project graduated on May 12 at the Memorial Union in Madison.  All thirty of the students who began the course completed the requirements to graduate.  The Odyssey Project teaches students about literature, art, history, critical thinking, writing and self-expression.  Each student spoke to the audience.  Some read passages from their studies that they found particularly significant and others read their own work.

It was obvious that this program has a profound impact on each and every person who participates in it.  The students discover hidden talents and strengths that will help them thrive in the future.  There were several Odyssey Project alumni in the audience, many of whom were pursuing additional school at the technical college or university level.

The Odyssey Project is unique because it provides the students the support services they need to participate in the program, including child care while they are in the Wednesday evening classes.

We wish to thank Professor Auerbach, the rest of the program faculty, the University and all of the community partners who have banded together to make this program a success.  We also wish every single graduate of this program the best of luck in their future ventures.
